Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT)

Speeds 1GbE – 10GbE, OC-1/3/12/48/192 BER

Bit error rate, BER, measures the full end to end performance of a system including the transmitter, receiver and the medium between the two. In this way, BER enables the actual performance of a system in operation to be tested, rather than testing the component parts and hoping that they will operate satisfactorily when in place.

BER testing is a powerful methodology for end to end testing of digital transmission systems. A BER test provides a measurable and useful indication of the performance of the system that can be directly related to its operational capability.

  • Test active and metro ethernet networks
  • Test data transmission speeds up to 10 Gbs per channel
  • Verify signal quality across network links
  • Verify network integrity with normal and abnormal data patterns
  • Optimize network performance with bit by bit comparisons and latency analysis

MFL performs the following BERT services:

  • BER Testing: Determines signal integrity by the BER value. Tests up to 4 layer networks.
  • Bidirectional BFC 2544: Industry standard for throughput, frame loss and latency to verify accordance with service benchmarks.
  • QOS: Traffic generating and monitoring are analyzed by statistical results of: throughput, frame loss, jitter, latency and sequencing.
